Explaining NIOC capabilities

Starting with vSphere 6.0, the new NIOC v3 introduces a mechanism to reserve bandwidth for system traffic based on the capacity of the physical NICs on a host. It enables fine-grained resource control at the VM network adapter level similar to the model that you use for allocating CPU and memory resources.

If you have upgraded a vDS to version 6.0.0 without converting NIOC to version 3, you can upgrade NIOC to use the enhanced model for bandwidth allocation to system traffic and to individual virtual machines:
